There are some different common meaning between British English and American English. Expressing same object in different words. And most of all, it is according to the cultures and customs. but it won't effect communication practically.

for example, jumper is clothes in British English. But American seldom use this word as clothes(out of time and tide) but sweater. else, such jersey, slacks and trousers and so on.
